Natural Wine Tasting at Domaine des Mathouans in Latour-de-France: living terroir, living wines

Come experience a unique wine tourism adventure in Latour-de-France with Aline, a passionate winemaker at Domaine des Mathouans. Since 2009, she has cultivated her vines following organic and biodynamic principles (certified by Demeter), with special care to let the terroir speak and produce Natural wines of great purity.

The estate spans a magnificent schist terroir, ideal for expressing the richness of Roussillon’s native grape varieties. During this guided tour, Aline will introduce you to her old vines of Lledoner Pelut, Muscat d’Alexandrie, and other treasures rooted in the Catalan scrubland.

After the walk through the vineyards, you’ll be welcomed into the cellar. There, you’ll immerse yourself in the unique world of natural wine, among wooden conical vats, amphorae, and barrels. Each vessel is carefully chosen to respect the grape’s identity and guide fermentations without oenological additives.

The natural wine tasting in Latour-de-France is the highlight of the visit. You’ll sample several cuvées with surprising aromatic profiles, crafted without artifice and with great finesse. These wines fully express their geographical origin and the artisanal philosophy behind them.

The 2-hour experience is a comprehensive guided tour that begins with a walk through the vineyards, where you will discover the old vines and the unique schist terroir. This is followed by an immersion in the cellar to learn about natural winemaking methods, using tools like wooden vats and amphorae. The visit culminates in a commented tasting of at least 5 of the estate's natural wines.

The entire visit and tasting last approximately 2 hours. As bookings are handled on an enquiry basis, we recommend contacting the estate directly to check availability for your desired date. Please note that reservations are for individuals or very small groups, as the maximum capacity for a booking is 1 person.

Absolutely. Following the tasting, you will have the opportunity to purchase bottles of the wines you have sampled. This is offered as an optional addition to your visit, allowing you to take a piece of the Domaine des Mathouans experience home with you.
