Domaine des mathouans

Latour-de-France, Agly Valley

Domaine des Mathouans, located in Latour-de-France, has been run since 2009 by winemaker Aline following an organic and biodynamic farming approach certified by Demeter. The estate extends over the characteristic schist soils of Roussillon, conducive to the expression of native grape varieties such as Lledoner Pelut or Muscat of Alexandria. The vines are cultivated with care in order to preserve biodiversity and reveal the typicity of the terroir. Vinifications are carried out without oenological inputs, favoring varied containers such as amphorae, wooden vats or barrels, in order to respect the identity of the grape. The estate thus produces natural wines of great purity, reflecting both their origin and a demanding artisanal approach.

Roussillon wine country: an exceptional terroir

The Pyrénées-Orientales is one of France's most authentic wine regions. Roussillon offers a mosaic of unique terroirs: black schist from the Agly valley, granite from Les Aspres, limestone from Fenouillèdes and rolled pebbles from the plain. This geological diversity, combined with a Mediterranean climate tempered by the Tramontane wind, gives birth to wines of remarkable character.

Catalan winemakers cultivate iconic grape varieties — black, gray and white Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Macabeu, Muscat à petits grains, Lledoner Pelut — often in organic or biodynamic farming. A winery visit in Roussillon is an opportunity to discover dry, fortified or natural wines in a preserved setting, at the heart of a millennia-old wine heritage.
